Painting of Whale Tail

The strongest technical aspect of my work is how I've unified my picture with color. I feel this way because the color of the sky and the colors of the ocean almost fade into one another with the use of a soft brush rather than creating a sharp line between the two. The technical aspect of my work that can be improved on is making the focus of the picture less prominent than it is in this picture. The focus here is the whale's tail and it seems to be where the eye falls only because it looks like it was pasted into the picture rather than painted like the ocean and sky.

The easiest part of this activity was choosing which colors I had wanted to paint each section of the picture. Choosing the colors was the easiest part of this art activity because I knew which colors I'd like to place in each piece of the picture. I didn't want it to be non-realistic, but at the same time, I didn't want it to look the same as the original picture, so I changed the colors slightly in order to create the same picture with a twist. The most difficult part of this art activity was trying to keep the colors inside the lines of each object. This was the hardest part of this art activity due to the fact I couldn't use a mouse, but I had to use a mouse pad on the laptop.

I demonstrated the objective in this art activity because I had painted every object of the picture with a paintbrush on photoshop to the entire picture is no longer the same colors as it was before I had edited it. If I could do this art activity again, I would choose a different picture and make the picture less realistic than it is to create a completely different picture than what I had started out with to make it different.

  1. Mariah, I really like the painterly quality of this image. I see what your saying about the whales tail but I think it adds visual interest. It reminds me of a David Hockney's work.
